For those of you who have missed my past blogs or Facebook posts, you heard right...I'm heading to Africa (specifically Nakuru)! And while it's CRAZY pricey (upwards of $6,000 CDN), there is a very good reason why I'm spending the money!
The purpose of this trip is to:
- Positively impact the lives of lost & abandoned children by educating them, supporting them, demonstrating affection & assisting in their overall hygiene.
- Generate awareness of the orphan-life and the life of African children within my circle of online ‘followers’ and hopefully beyond that.
- Motivate & inspire other infertile women by showing them that we do have a purpose outside of being biological mothers.
- Help myself continue to re-define what it means to be a mother.
As most of your know, I was diagnosed infertile a few years back. So, this, along with a few other personal experiences I've had in life, has encouraged me to jump in feet first to do something bold, impactful and important!
Here is a video clip from my crowdfunding campaign (which is now over) explaining my story:

My trip will begin on June 21st and I'll be there for 3-weeks. I'll be working in an Orphanage called "Amazing Grace" and living with a local host family in the town of Nakuru. Every day, I'll bus to the orphanage where I'll work approximately 12-hours.
Some of my tasks will include:
- Feeding the toddlers and helping with their hygiene.
- Teaching English and basic literacy skills.
- Playing games and creating activities for the kids to assist in their overall development.
- Contributing to the day-to-day tasks of running the orphanage
In addition to living with a local family (that has two kids), I'll also be dining with them and possibly some other volunteers. During my trip I'll get to try local food such as Ugali, Chapati, Githeri and Mukimo (whatever those are, haha!) and I'll get to experience the ins and outs of living like a local Kenyan.
As I approach the flight date, I'm getting quite nervous. For one, I'm going to be completely alone! And for another, I've got a lot of preparation to do to ensure I've got enough protein for my visit! LOL (Bodybuilding problems). Overall, however, I'm beginning to get excited. I'm not yet sure what I'm going to do for exercise, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Thanks for the support everyone!
